On February 4, 2019 the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation organized a ceremony in commemoration of the 71st Independence Day of Sri Lanka.
The official ceremony began with hoisting of the National Flag and singing of the National Anthem in Sinhala and Tamil. Multi-faith religious observances were conducted by the religious clergy, representing Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity.

On February 1, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation paid a courtesy call to his American counterpart, Jon M. Huntsman, Jr., a prominent politician, diplomat and businessman, whose record of service includes terms as U.S. Ambassador to China and to Singapore, before he assumed his duties as Head of Mission in Moscow.

On February the 1st, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka paid their second visit to the National Research University Higher School of Economics. Today the guests were received by Professor Glenn Diesen, Doctor of Social Sciences with PhD in Politics and International Relations, who is reading lectures on the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs and is an internationally respected expert on the Greater Eurasia concept. He has published extensively on this topic as well as 'Neo-Modernity'.

On January 31, 2019 Ambassador H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka attended the reception held on the occasion of the 71st Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar at the invitation of the Myanmar Ambassador H.E. Ko Ko Shein and Madame Tin Tin New.
H.E. I.V. Morgulov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, who is responsible for relations with East and South Asia and multilateral cooperation in the Asia Pacific Region, addressed the audience represented by the officials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and State Authorities, Ambassadors and Military Attaches.

On January 30, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka paid a visit to the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the largest and the oldest higher education establishment in Russia in the area of the Humanities with 500 researchers working on the Asian and North African history and culture, economics and politics, and languages.
Ambassador Jayatilleka and Madame Jayatilleka were received by the President of the Institute, Professor Vitaly Naumkin, and the Head of Indian Studies Dr. Tatiana Shaumyan.

Moscow State Institute of International Relations abbreviated as MGIMO University, is an academic institution run by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, which is widely considered the most prestigious university in Russia. Henry Kissinger called it the "Harvard of Russia" because it educates a constellation of the political, economic, and intellectual elite.
It was founded by Stalin in 1944 for the purpose of enhancing the education and training of the Soviet diplomatic corps for the new, post-War II global environment.
Since 1992 the University is led by Professor Anatoly Torkunov, who is also a MGIMO graduate, holds two doctoral degrees in History and Political Science and has the rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
