Ambassador-Designate of Sri Lanka to Russia Prof. M.D. Lamawansa paid a courtesy call on Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to the Russian Federation H.E. Kamrul Ahsan on June 22, 2020.

On June 18, 2020 Ambassador-Designate Prof. M.D. Lamawansa paid a visit to Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Second Asia Department, which oversees Sri Lanka, in addition to seven other Asian countries. Ambassador-Designate Lamawansa was received by H.E. Zamir Kabulov, Director of the Department.

On June 17, 2020 Ambassador-Designate Prof. M.D. Lamawansa paid courtesy calls on his Pakistani counterpart Ambassador H.E. Shafqat Ali Khan, and on Nepal Ambassador H.E. Rishi Ram Ghimire.

Sri Lanka's commitment to the longstanding bilateral relations with the Russian Federation has been proved once again under the stewardship of the newly appointed Ambassador Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, by donating Ceylon tea to the leading Russian hospitals where COVID-19 patients are treated.
