On July 20, 2020 Ambassador-Designate Prof. M.D. Lamawansa accompanied by Mr. Mohamed Anas, Counsellor and HOC, and Ms. Chathurika Perera, Second Secretary (Commercial) visited Russia-Sri Lanka Friendship Society (RSLFS) in Moscow. The guests were received by Mr. Vladimir Polozkov, Deputy Chairman of RSLFS Board and RAIC General Secretary, and Ms. Marina Korosteleva, RSLFS Board member. The meeting took place in the office of the Russian Association for International Cooperation (RAIC) at the Federation Council of the Russian Federation.

H. E. Prof. M. D. Lamawansa opened a new page of Sri Lanka's public communications in Russia by two interviews given to leading internet-based and television media.

On July 16, the first interview of a Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia appeared on ROSSIYA-24 (Russia24) Federal TV Channel, in the 'Global Talk', new diplomatic series hosted by H. E. Dr. Alexandre Yakovenko, Rector of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Diplomatic Academy, former Deputy Foreign Minister and Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesman. This was the 8th edition of 'Global Talk', launched in 2020, which has given the floor to several Ambassadors, including from Asia Pacific region, such as India and Japan.

On July 9, 2020 Ms. Chathurika Perera, Second Secretary (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia participated in the round table “New formats of vacations abroad in the post-pandemic period” organized by the Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR).

Sri Lanka Embassy in the Russian Federation, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, jointly with the Presidential Secretariat, Sri Lanka Ministry of Foreign Relations and Sri Lankan Airlines facilitated the repatriation of 236 Sri Lankans from Minsk (Belarus) and Moscow (Russia) to Colombo on 09-10 July 2020. The passengers on this special flight included students and short-term visa holders.
