On 14 October 2020, the Embassy organized a meeting between the Kursk State Agricultural Academy and the Wayamba University. This meeting was conducted consequent to a visit of the Embassy to the Kursk region in September 2020, during which the Embassy and the Academy agreed to establish cooperation between the Academy and Sri Lankan Universities.

The meeting was graced by Prof. M. D. Lamawansa, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia; Ms. Ekaterina Harchenko, Acting Rector of the Kursk State Agricultural Academy, and Senior Prof. Udith Jayasinghe, Vice Chancellor of the Wayamba University, as well as Vice Rectors, Deans and other representatives of the Universities, and the Embassy staff.

The sides agreed to establish cooperation in the spheres of education and science, with a special attention to nanotechnology, precision farming, organic farming, soil analysis and agricultural mechanization.

The Kursk State Agricultural Academy and the Wayamba University agreed to work out a roadmap for cooperation with the assistance of the Embassy, and subsequently to sign an MoU, which would formalize the relations. To take forward the initiative, a working group was established with members from the University and the Academy.

The video conference was continued by a dinner hosted by H. E. the Ambassador for the Rector of the Kursk Academy and other staff of the Academy.
