On August 17, 2019 Ambassador Jayatilleka accompanied by Counsellor Mohamed Anas, and Defence Attache Group Capt Uditha Piyasena, visited the Patriot Congress and Exhibition Centre for the official closing ceremony of the 5th International Army Games 2019 (ARMY 2019).

On August 13, 2019 Ambassador H.E. Doctor Dayan Jayatilleka paid a courtesy call on Maria Zakharova, Director of the Information and Press Department of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Maria Zakharova is also a spokeswoman for the MFA officially representing Russia. She is a PhD holder in Historical Sciences, who previously headed the Press Service of Russia's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York City.

On August 9, 2019 Ambassador Jayatilleka paid a visit to the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS). Established in 1992 by the President of the Russian Federation the Institute has become a major scientific-research and analytical centre with its mission to provide information support to the Administration of the President of the Russian Federation, the Federation Council, the State Duma and the Security Council as well as to Government offices, ministries and departments. Now RISS has more than 10 centers including Centre for Asia and Pacific Region which do analysis and predict trends in political and socio-economic processes at global and regional levels.

In August 2019 the Sri Lankan Army national team made its debut at the International Army Games in Russia, the multi-faceted military 'Olympics' held, since 2015, simultaneously in a number of countries, including Russia, China, India, Iran, Belarus, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Mongolia. This month, the first team from the Sri Lankan Army, proudly representing Airborne Troops, Snipers and Field Chefs, have started competing with international counterparts from 35 countries, respectively, in the region of Pskov, North-West Russia (Airborne Platoon Competition), Brest, Western Belarus (Snipers' Frontier Competition) and in Moscow region (Field Kitchen Competition).

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia is happy to annouce that starting August 1, 2019 citizens of the Russian Federation, willing to visit Sri Lanka for tourist purposes, can obtain entry visas at the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport free of charge!

On July 27-30, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, made an official trip to Russia at the invitation of the Russian Defence Ministry. This was the first visit by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy to Saint Petersburg, Russian Navy Headquarters, thus paving a symbolic milestone on the way of the development of bilateral naval cooperation. Vice Admiral De Silva, accompanied by Captain (G) G. S. H. E. De Silva, Aide and Secretary to the Navy Commander, and Lieutenant Commander D. M. R. E. Dissanayake, Coordinating Officer and ADC to the Navy Commander, participated in the Main Naval Parade, Russia's largest-scale international ceremonial event at sea.
