On May 14, 2019, Moscow State Institute of International Affairs (MGIMO University), with the support of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, held an international round table "Contemporary Political Dynamic of the Indo-Pacific Region", followed by a lecture by Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka on "Armed movements, terrorism, and the ethics of violence. Sri Lanka: A decade after the defeat of terrorism in the 30-year war."

On May 13, 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka met with H. E. Oleg Syromolotov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, General of the Army, who oversees counter-terrorism matters.
The meeting was devoted to discussing issues of domestic and international terrorism. H. E. Oleg Syromolotov expressed his condolences for those, who had died and been injured as a result of a series of bomb explosions in Sri Lanka on April 21, 2019, and strongly condemned the terrorist acts.

'No religion, nationality or colour of skin in the fight against terrorism'- Mufti of Russia
On May 6, 2019 the official opening of the XIV Ramadan Tent, Muslim cultural event took place at the Memorial Mosque on Poklonnaya Hill near the Victory Museum, Moscow.
Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka were invited to attend the opening ceremony of the Ramadan Tent by the Mufti of Russia Sheikh Ravil Gainutdin, the Head of the Spiritual Assembly of the Muslims of Russia, and Mufti of Moscow Ildar-hazrat Alyautdinov, who chairs the Spiritual Administration of the Muslims of Moscow.

The Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation expresses its deepest condolences to those who lost relatives and friends in the tragic plane fire that took place at the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow on May 5, 2019, claiming lives of 41 people.

The Embassy also wishes the passengers of the flight SU 1492, injured in the plane blaze, a speedy and full recovery.

On May 6, 2019 a Book of Condolence was open at the Embassy of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Moscow for General Le Duc Anh, the former President of Vietnam, who had died aged 99.
General Le Duc Anh was a communist veteran of Vietnam's wars against France's colonial rule and American forces propping up the South, but later presided over the restoration of diplomatic relations with former enemies. In 1975 he marched through Vietnam's former southern capital of Saigon at the head of the parade celebrating the victory of the north, an end of a decade-long war and the country's long dreamed-of reunification.

On 26th April 2019, Mr. Ranga Bandaranayake, an experienced well-known Sri Lankan TV drama and programme producer, son of a Sri Lankan film director and playwright, Kala Keerthi Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, won the golden award for his film The Silence (නිහැඩියාව) under the category of "Civil society" - Documentary films devoted to the fight for civil rights, at the XXI International Festival of Detective Films and Television programs on Law-Enforcement Themes "DetectiveFEST", which was held in Moscow on April 22nd - 28th 2019.
