State Minister of Regional Co-operation Tharaka Balasuriya undertook an official visit to Russia from 5– 8 September 2021, to participate at the opening of the Sri Lanka pavilion at the "OTDYKH Leisure Fair" and a Sri Lanka tourism promotion campaign in Moscow. Sri Lanka's participation at these events were organized by the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau targeting the winter season tourists from Russia.

The Sri Lanka Embassy in Moscow arranged a meeting with PJSC Aeroflot of Russian Federation for the visiting delegation from the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation at the headquarters of Aeroflot on 03rd September 2021 in Moscow. During the meeting, officials from PJSC Aeroflot mentioned its readiness to commence a new direct service between Moscow-Colombo, which will start on 4th November 2021.

Following the fruitful visit of Ms. Thavishya Mullegamgoda, First Secretary (Commercial) of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow, to Ekaterinburg, the capital of the Ural Region and the industrial capital of Russia, in July 2021, trade division of the Mission has made arrangements to introduce National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka to the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russian Federation for collaboration.

Based on the request of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow the Hon. Prasanna Ranaweera, State Minister of Rattan, Brass, Pottery, Furniture and Rural Industrial Promotion of Sri Lanka handed over a number of cultural items, including dancing costumes, Batik items, paintings, handicrafts, music instruments, display items, etc. to Hon. Tharaka Balasuriya, State Minister of Regional Cooperation to be further delivered to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia.

On 28th and 29th August 2021 Sri Lanka Tea Board participated at the "CHASHKA" (Cup) festival, which took place on the territory of the Museum of Moscow in the city centre.
