On March 23, 2017 the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia organized a gala dinner reception at the Ritz Carlton Hotel Moscow in honour of the visit of the President of Sri Lanka H. E. Maithripala Sirisena to the Russian Federation at the invitation of the President of Russia H. E. Vladimir Putin and on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Russia.

March 23, 2017 began with the Wreath Laying Ceremony for the Tomb of Unkown Soldier which took place at the Alexander Garden and was attended by H. E. the President of Sri Lanka, First Lady of Sri Lanka, Honorable Ministers, H. E. the Ambassadors of both countries and other Sri Lankan and Russian officials.

In the framework of the official visit of H. E. Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka, to Russia, Hon. Dayasiri Jayasekara, Minister of Sport of Sri Lanka, met with his Russian counterpart Hon. Pavel Kolobkov, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation, to discuss cooperation between two countries in the field of sports

March 23, 2017 marked one of the most historic moments of the whole 60 years of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Russia, as two Heads of State met at Kremlin, the heart of the Russian Federation and the residence of H. E. Vladimir Putin.

On March 22, 2017 His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena accompanied by the First Lady of Sri Lanka Madame Jayanthi Sirisena was received with warm welcome at the Domodedovo International Airport.

On February 14, 2017 H. E. Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, together with Mr. Dulmith Waruna, Second Secertary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, and Mr. Upul Priyantha, Third Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, attended the ceremony of appointment of Dr. Mohamad Chahine as Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Kursk.
