Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe called on Prof. Vladimir Filippov, Rector of the People’s Friendship University of Russia on 20 January 2016.

The University, formerly known as People’s Friendship University named after Patrice Lumumba, is a pioneer educational institute to receive foreign students in the USSR and Russia.

H.E. Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation called on H.E. Igor Petrishenko, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Russian Federation on 18 December 2015.

Congratulating Ambassador Dr. Weerasinghe on his new assignment, Ambassador Petrishenko noted that Belarus and Sri Lanka have had very close relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations 15 years ago.

Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, visited Moscow State Technical University (MSTU) named after N. E. Bauman and had a meeting with Boris V. Padalkin, First Vice-Rector, Vice-Rector for academic work.

“The Sri Lankan government, private sectors and civil society look forward to working with Russia, so that we can keep the current progress  and help Sri Lanka to fulfil its potential for a peaceful and prosperous future. I genuinely hope that all these goals can be achieved, if Russia and Sri Lanka keep improving close cooperation and personally, “I will do my best to contribute to the mutual success of our nations.”  Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe

A five-member delegation led by Mr. Ilyas Mahomed-Salomovich Umakhanov, Vice Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation visited Sri Lanka from 30 November to 2 December 2015.

Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, the newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, presented his Credentials to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, in the Alxandrovsky Hall of the Great Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Thursday, 26th November 2015. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov was also present at the Ceremony.
