On May 10, 2017 Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation organized Vesak Lantern competition for the second consecutive year to celebrate Vesak day.

On April 28, 2017 the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia organized a reception for representatives of the Sri Lankan community living in Moscow to wish for the Sinhala Hindu new year, to express its gratitude for the support and assistance extended to the Embassy during the official visit of H. E. the President of Sri Lanka to Russia held on March 22-24, 2017 and bid farewell for Mr. Sinnaiah Vasagampulle, who had worked at the Embassy of Sri Lanka for more than 3 years as the Accounts Officer.

March 23, 2017 marked one of the most historic moments of the whole 60 years of bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Russia, as two Heads of State met at Kremlin, the heart of the Russian Federation and the residence of H. E. Vladimir Putin.
