February 26, 2017 was marked by the Ceylon Tea Party and the Networking Session, organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia at the Lotte Hotel Moscow with the support of the Sri Lanka Tea Board.

The 70th Independence Day commemoration was held at the Embassy of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation on February 4, 2018, according to the agenda received from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of the Embassy staff and Sri Lankan nationals currently residing in the Russian Federation and representing Sri Lankan business and student communities from Moscow, Kursk, Tver and other regions of Russia. Around 120 Sri Lankan nationals participated in the event.

On October 14-16, 2017 Hon. Karu Jayasuriya, Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka, made an official visit to St. Petersburg, Russia to participate in the 137th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held on October 14-18, 2017.

A Sri Lankan delegation headed by Hon. Niroshan Perera, State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs, visited Russia to participate in the Ministerial Meeting of High Ranking Officials Responsible for Implementation of Youth Policies and the World Festival of Youth and Students on the invitation extended by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

On October 9, 2017 the Minister of Skills Development and Vocational Training of Sri Lanka Hon. Chandima Weerakkody arrived in Moscow, Russia on the invitation of the Director General of the Training and Research Center of Moscow Trade Union Federation Mr. Vladimir Bogdashin to participate in the International conference: "Social Responsibility and Working Environment – the main factors of Sustainable Development".

His Excellency Dr. Saman Weerasinghe hosted a farewell reception for the First Secretary Ms. Chandima Kiriwandla and Attaché Mr. Sujith Rodrigo who are completing their tours of duty and leaving back for Sri Lanka next month.
