In the framework of the official visit of H. E. the Ambassador Prof MD Lamawansa to the Kursk region, the Embassy Cricket Cup – 2020" was held in the city of Kursk
The Embassy Cricket Cup was held for the first time in 2008, at the initiative of the Mission and with the participation of the Sri Lankan community in Russia in order to strengthen the interaction among the Russian community, Sri Lankan Community and Sri Lankan students in Russia.
Due to several years lapse the Cup was held this year despite the pandemic. Six teams representing different regions of Russia, the Moscow, Tver and St. Petersburg namely Moscow Lions, Spartans from Moscow; Volga rangers from Tver; Kursk Blasters, Mahason from Kursk, Neva Raiders from Saint Petersburg participated.
The team Kursk Blasters were the Champion of the Cricket Cup and the Runner up were Moscow Lions. The following players received special prizes:
- Man of the Series – Lahiru Pramod (Kursk Blasters),
- Best Batsman – Reveen Bandara (Moscow Lions),
- Best Bowler – Eranga Fernando(Kursk Blasters).
The awarding ceremony was held at the open ground of the Kursk State Medical University (KSMU). It was graced by H.E the Ambassador and the Rector of KSMU, V.A.Lazarenko. In his speech, H. E. the Ambassador thanked the administration of the University for the enormous support given to organize the event, as well as all team members and fans for their active participation in such an important event.
The Embassy would like to express special thanks to Dr. Mohamed T. Chahine, Hony. Consul of Sri Lanka in Kursk Region for overall arrangements of the programme, student union leaders of the participating universities and members of the teams.

Herath, Second Secretary (Political, Education and Cultural Affairs), Ms. Chathurika Perera, Second Secretary (Trade Affairs) and all staff of the Embassy.
