On December 6, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka attended the presentation of the book "Russia" (Polity Press, 2019) by Dr. Dmitry Trenin, Director of the Carnegie Moscow Center at the invitation of Ambassador of Mexico to the Russian Federation H.E. Norma Bertha Pensado-Moreno. The discussion took place at the Embassy of Mexico in Moscow.

Opening the meeting the Mexican Ambassador introduced Dr. Trenin, PhD in History, who has been Director of the Carnegie Moscow Centre since 2008. Previously Dr. Trenin held a post as a senior research fellow at the Institute of Europe in Moscow and at the NATO Defence College in Rome. Dr. Trenin served in the Soviet and Russian armed forces from 1972 to 1993 and worked as a liaison officer in the external relations branch of the Group of Soviet Forces and was a staff member of the delegation to the U.S.-Soviet nuclear arms talks in Geneva from 1985 to 1991.
Dr. Dmitry Trenin spoke about the key points of his new book, which gives a succinct account of Russia's modern history, from the revolutionary upheaval of the 1900s to the country's contemporary political, economic and social realities.
The presentation of the book was followed by discussion, during which Ambassador Jayatilleka posed several questions to the author. Dr. Trenin congratulated Ambassador Jayatilleka on his new article published on the website of Russian International Affairs Council, and made reference to its main argument.
