On November 29, 2019 H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, accompanied by Madame Sanja Jayatilleka took part in the evening function dedicated to the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People at the invitation of Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moscow UN Information Center, League of Arab States in Moscow and Embassy of the State of Palestine in the Russian Federation.

The event was attended by representatives of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, State Authorities, the Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited in Moscow, Military officials and other friends of Palestine and commenced with observance of a minute of silence in remembrance of those who died or was injured when fighting for liberation and establishment of the independent state.
The Palestinian Ambassador H.E. Abdelhafiz Nofal addressed the audience and thanked all those who came to solidarize with the people of Palestine.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin read out the letter sent from the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to Palestinian Leader Mahmoud Abbas, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. President Putin expressed hope for a settlement in the Middle East. "We proceed from the fact that the result of a just, long-term Middle East settlement should be a viable state of Palestine within the borders of 1967 with a capital in east Jerusalem, peacefully existing with its neighbors."
President Putin also expressed support for Palestine's desire to establish a direct dialogue with Israel, and also spoke about the hope for friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The head of state, in addition, supported the implementation of the "legitimate aspirations" of the people of Palestine.
The head of UN Information Center in Moscow Vladimir Kuznetsov read out the letter from United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on the occasion of International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. Ambassador Jaber Habib Jaber, head of Moscow Mission of the League of the Arab States, and Vice-Premier of the State of Palestine Ziad Abu Amr highlighted in their speeches that the settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remains one of the most difficult tasks facing the international community.
The official part of the event was followed by the concert with national songs and dances and cocktail reception.
