On April 1, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka visited the headquarters of Russia Today (RT), Russia's first round-the-clock, English-language, international TV news channel, expanded to a global, 24/7 news network with seven TV channels broadcasting in six languages. The guests were received by Margarita Simonyan, Editor-in-Chief of RT and concurrently of the state-owned international news agency Rossiya Segodnya that broadcasts in more than 30 languages.

Margarita Simonyan is a renowned journalist, who received several journalism awards including 'for professional courage' as a war correspondent, as she reported from Chechnya during the Second Chechen War, from the Beslan School Siege, and from Abkhazia.
Ambassador Jayatilleka and Margarita Simonyan discussed the current success and future plans of RT.
Ambassador Jayatilleka, who has a wide experience as a columnist and regular commentator on TV and radio, shared his view of why RT is such a successful and popular news agency and expressed his gratitude to RT for its "professionalism and collective personality" as well as the valuable role it plays in the global information order, often presenting a credible alternative perspective of global events.
Ms. Simonyan disclosed that world famous, controversial leftist philosopher Slavoj Zizek now has his own programme on RT.
