On February 20, 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka visited the Institute for the US and Canadian Studies of Russian Academy of Science. Founded in 1967 by Academician Georgi Arbatov, the Institute has become one of the leading think tanks providing recommendations for high-level government bodies on domestic, foreign and military policy, as well as on the issues related to restructuring of the Russian national economy.

Ambassador Jayatilleka and Madame Jayatilleka were received by Academician Sergey Rogov, Doctor in History, who has worked for the Institute for US and Canadian Studies since 1976, was the Director of the Institute for more than 20 years and now is the Academic Director of the Institute.
Academician S. Rogov is also the Chairman of the International Security Commission of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Security Council of the Russian Federation; Member of the Advisory Council of the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation; Advisor to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the State Duma of the Russian Federation. Dr. Rogov is an author of more than 400 articles, 18 monographs and several books and is a member of the editorial board of USA and Canada: Economics, Politics, Culture journal. In 2010 he was awarded by the Russian President with the Order of Merit.
Ambassador Jayatilleka and Academician Rogov had a comprehensive discussion on the various issues of world politics and international relations with a special emphasis on strategy and international security.
