
The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation participated in the Second Vgosti Hospitality Forum held in Vologda on 26-27 March 2026, underscoring Sri Lanka’s commitment to strengthening tourism cooperation and regional partnerships with the Russian Federation.
Addressing the forum, the Ambassador delivered a speech highlighting Sri Lanka’s best practices in tourism, with particular emphasis on the importance of inbound and domestic tourism as key drivers of sustainable economic growth. The Ambassador noted that modern tourism increasingly focuses on authentic experiences, cultural immersion, and community engagement, areas in which Sri Lanka has built a strong reputation as a diverse and year-round destination.
The Ambassador also took part in a panel discussion with international and Russian experts, sharing Sri Lanka’s experience in promoting experiential tourism, wellness travel, and destination branding, while exploring avenues for deeper collaboration with Russian stakeholders.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Ambassador held cordial meetings with Georgy Filimonov, the Governor of Vologda Region and Sergey Zhestyannikov, the Mayor of Vologda City, during which both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between the sister cities of Galle and Vologda. Discussions focused on expanding collaboration in tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
In this context, particular attention was given to opportunities for Sri Lanka’s participation in Vologda’s renowned lace-making festival, opening avenues for cultural exchange and showcasing Sri Lankan craftsmanship and heritage on an international platform.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka reaffirmed its commitment to deepening partnerships with Russian regions and stakeholders to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred destination and to enhance bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
