Sri Lanka made a significant contribution to the III International Buddhist Forum, held in the Republic of Kalmykia, Russian Federation, with co-sponsorship from Moscow State University (MSU) and the Government of Kalmykia.

A 15-member Sri Lankan delegation, including the Counsellor of the Embassy, Ms. Mihiravi Dissanayake, Buddhist monks, and scholars from the universities of both Sri Jayewardenepura and Kelaniya together with the Gampaha Wickramaarachchi University, participated in various sessions addressing Buddhism, culture, philosophy, and practice.
Counsellor Ms. Dissanayake was invited to deliver a speech at a panel on "Buddhist Culture: Literature, Art & Architecture," highlighting Buddhism and its influence on Sri Lanka's culture over the past centuries. The Embassy facilitated an open lecture by Ven. Rakwane Gnanaseeha Thero, abbot of the Chittaviveka Forest Monastery, which explored themes of family values in the Russian language.
The Forum gathered over 7,000 Buddhist representatives from 35 countries, including India, Nepal, Myanmar, and Thailand, to discuss contemporary issues in the development of Buddhism, Buddhist culture, philosophy, and practice.
The Buddhist Forum is organized with the patronage of President Vladimir Putin of the Russian Federation and its main objectives are to foster international dialogue and cooperation, discuss the development of Buddhist culture and philosophy, strengthen ties between Buddhist organizations.
