Seven students of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine (GWUIM) became winners of the International Distance Olympiad in Russian Language and Regional Studies among Foreign Citizens, which was hosted in November – December 2023 by the Kalmyk State University.

The victory in this Olympiad will grant the students the possibility to receive a quota of the Government of the Russian Federation for studying in higher education institutions in the academic year 2024/2025.
Such an impressive result was possible as all the winners received their first Russian language education in August 2023 at the Center for the Study of the Russian Language and Culture (Center for Open Education), which was established at the GWUIM with strong support from Chuvash State Pedagogical University, Russian Federation. Therefore, all the above Sri Lankan winners have already benefited from studying in the Center.
The Embassy highly appreciates the efforts of the staff members of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine, the Chuvash State Pedagogical University, the Kalmyk State University for their joint efforts to strengthen the Sri Lanka – Russia educational links, as well as wishes the students all the success in their future endeavors.
