After the visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage to the Nizhny Novgorod region, the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (UNN) expressed its willingness to establish cooperation with Sri Lankan Universities and the University of Vavuniya showed reciprocal interest.

Therefore, on 01 September 2023 an introductory online meeting was held between the two sides, with UNN being represented by Associate Professor Alexander Bednyy, Vice Rector and representatives of the International Relations Department, and University of Vavuniya by Prof. T. Mangaleshwaran, Vice, the Chancellor, and other staff members of the University.
The sides held a cordial discussion, presented the Universities and showed particular interest in establishing links via postgraduate and staff exchanges, conducting joint research in the fields of applied science, business studies, technological studies, etc. The Universities agreed to prepare a joint roadmap of cooperation and to sign a memorandum of cooperation.
