With the support of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Russia the Federation Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka established good link with the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. H.E. the Ambassador, Prof. Ms. Janitha A. Liyanage opened an online meeting held on 21st of April 2023, welcoming the participants from both sides. The Federation Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka was represented by Mr. Kirthi Gunawardane, President of the FCCISL and deputy Secretary General Tilan Wijesuriya.

During the discussion, Mr. Mikhail Kozlov, Vice-President of the Ural Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that the UCCI had already had some experience of effective interaction with the businesses of Sri Lanka.
"During the pandemic, in November 2021, we were able to conduct B2B meetings via videoconference. Despite the isolation, entrepreneurs from both countries were interested in developing cooperation. I am sure that the regularity of communication, especially personal communication, will help expand the range of interaction between the businesses of our countries," he stressed.
Representatives from the Sri Lankan side supported this attitude and expressed their readiness in the near future to exchange information on goods and services that exporters from Sri Lanka and the Urals could supply.
The parties agreed to sign a MOU as the next step towards the enhancement of cooperation. A lot of prospective areas were outlined during the meeting, since after the withdrawal of western companies from the Russian market, there were vacant niches, waiting for the suppliers of various ranges of products to fill in. On the other side, since the Russian goods lost some buyers in the Western part of the world, many Russian corporations are searching for local venues to place their manufacturing facilities there and from this point of view they are quite interested in investing in Sri Lanka.
