During the visit to the Russian Federation in September 2022, Hon. Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media, Dr. Bandula Gunawardena and representatives from the Embassy represented Sri Lanka at the International Travel Fair in Russia – Leisure 2022.

Leisure Travel Fair marks the start of the autumn-winter season of the tourism industry in Russia. The event has been held in an annual format for 28 years and brings together more than 10,000 industry professionals - from representatives of small and medium-sized businesses in the field of tourism to the heads of large Russian and foreign companies and Russian Authorities of tourism sector.
Hon. Mister and the Minister Counselor of the Embassy were welcomed by the Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism (Rostourism) of the Russian Federation, Ms. Zarina Doguzova. Later on the sidelines of the event a fruitful discussion of the ways of enhancement of cooperation between our two countries was held between Dr. Bandula Gunawardena and the Deputy Head of the Rostourism, Ms. Lysenkova.
Further the Sri Lanka delegation hold negotiations with the Association of Tour Operators of Russia along with some leading Tour Operators and gave an interview to the main Russian News TV Channel "Russia 24", regaining the image of the Island as an attractive tourism destination.
