A delegation of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) visited Sri Lanka from 25 to 28 September 2022 to conduct introductory meetings with Sri Lankan Universities and official bodies and familiarize with the key principles and methods of teaching Buddhism in Sri Lanka.

The visit was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation to assist the respected Russian higher education institution in establishing links with their Sri Lankan counterparts with the purpose of opening a Buddhist educational programme in Russia. This programme will enable Russian Buddhists obtain state-recognized higher education qualification.
In the framework of the visit the delegation comprising Ms. Larisa Efremova, Vice Rector for International Affairs, Ms. Nadezhda Kuchma, Project Coordination Specialist, and other staff members of RUDN visited the University of Ruhuna, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, the University of Colombo and the University of Kelaniya.
Vice Chancellors, Heads of the Departments of Buddhist Studies and International Affairs and other academicians of the Universities greeted the delegates. The sides discussed the details of the future programme and developed a roadmap of cooperation, which would incorporate the profound Sri Lankan experience of teaching Buddhism to the guidance documents of the course. The sides will continue communication online to develop the links and introduce the programme at the earliest.
