On 28 June 2022, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia organized an online meeting between the I. U. Ulianov Chuvash State University, University of Ruhuna, South Eastern University and University of Moratuwa. It took place as a result of a visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, to the Republic of Chuvashia.

The Universities were represented by Prof Sujeewa Amarasena, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ruhuna; Prof. Niranjan Gunawardena, Vice Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa, Prof. A. Rameez, Vice Chancellor of the South Eastern University and Mr. Igor Egorovich Poverinov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Chuvash State University, as well as their staff.
In the course of the meeting the Universities presented their institutions, highlighting especially strong fields of knowledge in each of them, shared proposals for future collaborations, such as student and staff exchange, knowledge sharing, opening short courses, conducting joint research, signing Memorandums of Understanding, etc. All four Universities expressed strong interest in enhancing and strengthening academic, educational and cultural links between Sri Lanka and Russia.
