On 01 June 2022, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow organized a meeting between the Minsk State Linguistic University and the University of Kelaniya to discuss the prospects of cooperation in the field of linguistics and pedagogy between the two Universities.

This meeting was conducted based on the results of the visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, concurrently accredited to the Republic of Belarus, to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus.
At the meeting, the Minsk State Linguistic University was represented by Prof. Natalya Lapteva, Rector, and the staff of the MSLU and the University of Kelaniya by Prof. Neelakshi C. Premawardhena, Director, Centre for International Affairs, and other staff of the Centre.
The sides discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the spheres of bachelor and postgraduate education, teaching Russian as a foreign language, developing joint educational programmes, arranging summer educational camps, courses, conducting joint research, student and academic exchange, etc.
The sides expressed their wish to continue discussions on cooperation and sign the Memorundum of Understanding at the earliest.
