On April 7-10, 2022 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage visited Kursk at the invitation of the Governor of Kursk region H.E. R.V. Starovoit and Rector of Kursk State Medical University Prof. V.A. Lazarenko.

 

In the framework of the visit H.E. the Ambassador held discussion with the Governor of Kursk region and Region Administration addressing the matters pertaining to security, wellbeing and financial issues of Sri Lankan students. Governor assured that he keeps security matters in the region on his personal control. Currently more than 250 students study and reside in Kursk.

 During the meeting with the Governor, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka to Kursk Dr. Mohamad Chehine, Director of International Medical Institute, and the Heads of the Committees for Trade and Economic Development Mr. Osipov and Healthcare of Kursk Mr. Bolostovsky from the region Administration were present. H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage raised the topic of opening Sri Lankan Trade House in Kursk and expressed interest to study the potential for developing cooperation in trade, economy and tourism sectors while strengthening the collaboration in education sphere.

The Governor of Kursk region has extended an Invitation to H.E. the Ambassador and Sri Lankan business delegation to participate in the famous Annual International Trade Korenskaya Fair scheduled to be held in June 2022.

Ambassador Liyanage held a fruitful discussion with the Rector of Kursk State Medical University Prof. Lazarenko and University Administration to discuss students’ security, studies, wellbeing and fees-payment-related issues. Both sides highlighted great potential to expand cooperation in the sphere of education.

Her Excellency visited and inspected clinical bases, Federal accreditation and simulation center, anatomic theater, lecture halls and other facilities where Sri Lankan students study and do their practicals.

Being an academician, H.E. the Ambassador Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage delivered a lecture for more than 100 international students of Kursk State Medical University upon the University Rector’s invitation.

H.E. the Ambassador conducted a meeting with the Sri Lankan students to discuss their issues, security and wellbeing.

The visit was finished by attending a Sri Lanka Cultural Day held in Kursk State Medical University with the Sri Lankan Students’ Performance.
