A presentation on "Sri Lankan Tourism" was conducted by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation for the representatives of the Ural Tourism Association and tour operators of the Ural region on 06th July 2021 at the Atrium hotel in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

During his speech, Ambassador Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, outlined the recent developments in the tourism sector of Sri Lanka in order to face the challenges posed by the Pandemic. The rich ambience of Sri Lanka's natural beauty, pristine beaches, wildlife, glorious history, cultural heritage, adventures, multicultural festivals, Sri Lankan cuisine, lifestyle of Sri Lankans and some of the special and unique products offered by Sri Lanka to the world were featured in the presentation done by the Commercial Secretary of the Embassy Mrs. Thavishya Mullegamgoda.
Participants showed their interest to explore Sri Lanka as one of the potential and famous travel destinations. The Russian tour companies were impressed by the combination of cultural and natural richness of Sri Lanka. Ural Tourism Association expressed their readiness to collaborate with Sri Lanka Embassy in Russia and other tourism promotion related organizations in Sri Lanka to arrange tourism promotional events, fairs, road shows, B2B programmes in Ural region in order to promote Sri Lanka tourism among their member companies and arrange FAM tours for Russian tour operators & journalists to visit Sri Lanka.
With resumption of Sri Lankan Airlines to Moscow, it is envisaged that organizing more regional tourism promotional events in Russia including the Ural region will attract more Russian tourists in the upcoming winter season. It is important to highlight that travelers from Russia and other CIS countries continue to visit Sri Lanka during the COVID-19 outbreak.
