Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia joins hands with a group of Russian Buddhist enthusiasts for promoting the Theravada Buddhist philosophy among Russians.
Ms. Victoria Ustenko, PhD in Economics, Ms. Elena Bobodzhonova, MSc in Management, and Mr. Sergey Podgurskiy, Entrepreneur represents the group of enthusiasts.
The group has already organized multiple events in Russia, as well as abroad, such as meditation programmes, art exhibitions dedicated to Buddhism, books exhibitions. They also contribute to the spread of Sri Lankan culture by publishing Buddhism-related books translated to the Russian language, such as a book on the life of Gautama Buddha namely "Buddha Charithaya".
During an online meeting, which was held 26 October 2020, all agreed to work closely to support each other's' projects and to hold joint events.
In his address, H. E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, Prof. M. D. Lamawansa underlined that "the best option to connect people is through culture and religion".
The Ambassador thanked Dr. Ranjana Senasinghe who is the link between the Embassy and the Buddhist Community, and assured Ms. Ustenko of the readiness of the Embassy to render all possible assistance from its side and invited Ms. Ustenko, Ms. Bobodzhonova and Mr. Sergey Podgurskiy to visit the Embassy to plan the future projects.
