Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow commemorated 69th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 4th February 2017 at the Chancery with the hoisting of the national flag by Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe and singing the national anthem in Sinhala and Tamil followed by two minute silence observed in honour of all the national heroes who have sacrificed their lives for the country.

On January 26, 2017 the delegation from the National Institute of Labour Studies under the Ministry of Labour and Trade Union Relations of Sri Lanka visited the Academy of Labour and Social Relations of the Russian Federation to sign the Memorandum of Understanding.

H. E. Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, and H. E. Mr. Alexander A. Karchava, Ambassador of Russia to Sri Lanka, paid a courtesy call on H. E. Mr. Maithripala Sirisena, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

The Tea Promotion Unit (Sri Lanka Tea Board) attached to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia organized a Ceylon Tea pavilion at World Food Ukraine and World Food Kazakhstan 2016

On October 19, 2016 H. E. Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, called on H. E. Marat Tazhin, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Russian Federation.

Under the guidance of H. E. the Ambassador Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia organized a dharma sermon on October 17, 2016 at the Embassy residence premises. The sermon was conducted by the Chief Incumbent Venerable Professor Kollupitiye Mahinda Sangarakkhitha Thero and Pallekande Rathanasara Thero who were invited to Moscow specifically for this event.
