Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Shobini Gunasekera called on the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Rudenko, on 06 March 2025 to present copies of Letters of Credence accrediting her as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation.

Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Shobini Gunasekera assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow on 19th February 2025, which also coincided with the 68th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation.
Ambassador Gunasekera is a career diplomat with over 27 years of experience in diplomacy that includes various assignments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka's Missions abroad.
