The discussions focused on advancing bilateral relations through several key initiatives, including the proposed visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs , Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka to Belarus, the convening of Political Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and the holding of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation later this year.

Both sides underscored the importance of these engagements in setting a clear future direction for enhanced cooperation and in facilitating the conclusion of important framework agreements.

During her visit, the Ambassador also held discussions with senior officials and business leaders to promote economic and tourism cooperation. She met with representatives of the Belarusian tourism , including the Deputy Director of the National Tourism Agency , Anastasia Semashko as well as the Director General of Belavia, Igor Cherginets to explore opportunities for strengthening connectivity and increasing tourist flows between the two countries.

In addition, the Ambassador met with the Director General of the National Export Promotion Center, Ambassador Nikolai Borisevich, to discuss avenues for enhancing trade and business linkages. She briefed Belarusian stakeholders on upcoming trade promotion initiatives, including “Sri Lanka Expo,” highlighting opportunities for Belarusian businesses to engage with Sri Lanka’s dynamic export sectors.

These engagements collectively reflect Sri Lanka’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Belarus and to fostering mutually beneficial economic ties.

With strong capabilities in sectors such as manufacturing, machinery, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals, Belarus offers opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships, including technology transfer, value-added production, and joint ventures with Sri Lanka. The country’s strategic focus on export diversification and its well-developed industrial base position it as a dynamic partner, while complementarities with Sri Lanka’s strengths in apparel, tea, rubber-based products, and services create a solid foundation for expanding bilateral trade and investment.
