The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow is pleased to inform that productive discussions were held with the Government of the Russian Federation on 17 October 2022 to explore the possibility of obtaining a commercial long term facility for the procurement of fuel for Sri Lanka.

Her Excellency Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Prof. Janita A. Liyanage participated in the discussion on behalf of Sri Lanka and emphasized the importance of such credit line for Sri Lanka to procure fuel especially in these difficult times. The mechanism of the said credit line and the modalities of fuel procurement in the Russian Federation were discussed in detail at the meeting with the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Maksimov Timur, Deputy Minister of Finance of the Russian Federation and Mr. Levan Jagaryan, H.E. Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and several officials representing the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the Government of the Russian Federation.
The Embassy is of the view that this commercial credit line can play an important role in providing fuel in the quantities required by Sri Lanka at a competitive price in the coming months.
