Ke-SPB

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation hosted on 18 November 2022 an online meeting between the Saint Petersburg State University (SPBU), Russia and the University of Kelaniya.

SPBU, which is the oldest University in Russia found in 1724, has a long history of cooperation with Sri Lanka. It was the first University in the USSR, which started to teach Sinhala language, and in the course of the meeting, the University reiterated the possibility of restoring this programme in the future. The other directions of cooperation under discussion were tourism, library and information science, Russian as a foreign language, modern philology, Buddhism, biomedicine, etc.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, H. E. the Ambassador, Mr. Sergey Andryushin, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of the Saint Petersburg State University, Senior Professor Neelakshi C. Premawardhena, Director, Centre for International Affairs of the University of Kelaniya and other staff members of the Universities.
The sides decided to develop a roadmap for cooperation, which would include mutual participation in scientific and practical conferences, student and staff exchange, establishing language-related programmes, signing Memorandum of Understanding, etc.
